Bhubaneswar: Good news for air travellers particularly from Odisha. The long-standing demand of direct flight connectivity to Surat from Bhubaneswar will become a reality soon.

The information was shared by Member of Parliament from Bhubaneswar, Aparajita Sarangi through a Twitter post today.

Sarangi along with Surat MP Darshana Jardosh met Civil Aviation Minister Hardeep Singh Puri today and submitted a proposal for direct flights between the two cities.

"We both requested him for direct flight connectivity between Surat and Bhubaneswar. Good news that the flights would start twice a week very soon," tweeted Sarangi.

Last year, Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik had also urged the Civil Aviation ministry to introduce direct flight services between Odisha’s capital city and Surat citing that a sizeable population of non-resident Odias reside in Gujarat.

In a letter to the then Union Minister of Civil Aviation, Suresh Prabhu, Patnaik had highlighted that lakhs of Odias, who have settled and are engaged in Surat, face a lot of difficulties while travelling since there is no direct air connectivity between the two cities.
