Bhubaneswar: In the last 24 hours, Odisha's capital city Bhubaneswar recorded 541 fresh COVID-19 cases, the highest spike in the number of single-day infections since the outbreak of the pandemic.

As is being claimed by the health authorities, the city is now going through a peak. It has not only reported the highest daily spike but also witnessed a big surge in local contact cases during the period.

Of the new 541 COVID-19 cases reported in the last 24 hours, 220 positives were from quarantine centres while the remaining 321 are local contacts, as per the Bhubaneswar Municipal Corporation (BMC) tweet. This apart, 300 patients have recuperated in the last 24 hours.

"Further contact tracing is underway. Primary contacts and nearby houses are being quarantined, sanitised and will be under active surveillance," added BMC.

The notification issued by the civic body further mentions that 11273 persons have tested positive for COVID-19 in Bhubaneswar so far, out of which 6935 have recovered. The active case count in the city stands at 4282 and the fatality count is 44.
