Bhubaneswar: Adding a new dimension to the railway infrastructure, Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan on Saturday dedicated a new railway station to the people of Bhubaneswar.

The new station at Baranga, some 14km away from the existing main station at Master Canteen will provide better connectivity to the passengers and people in northern fringe of the city.

Passengers from Barang, Nandankanan, Raghunathpur will be benefited while the new station will also help in reducing the rush at Bhubaneswar station.

Three major trains--Puri-Howrah-Puri passenger, Rourkela-Puri-Rourkela passenger and Cuttack-Berhampur-Cuttack MEMU will given stoppages at the New Bhubaneswar railway station.

The new Bhubaneswar station has all basic amenities and facilities for the passengers. The new station has been constructed at a cost of Rs 28 crore, official sources said.

Though the construction work for the Bhubaneswar New Railway station had started in 2012, the completion of the project was delayed by almost three due to several reasons.

Apart from the new station, a mobile app for Puri Rath Yatra, MEMU shed at Khurda Road Station, new foot over bridge at Bhubaneswar station were also inaugurated today.

The mobile app for Puri Rath Yatra will come to the rescue of passengers as they can now assess several information including tickets, catering, Enquiry services, complaint management and book retiring rooms and dormitories.

The app will be crucial in disseminating information pertaining to special trains and ticketing to Puri during upcoming Rath Yatra.

"The mobile app will us to save time as we do not have to wait in queues to get information from counters," said Kartik, a passenger.

The foot over bridge at Bhubaneswar station has been completed  in a record time of 150 days.  This is the third foot over bridge at Bhubaneswar station which has been built at a cost of Rs 4 crore.

The foot over bridge will connect all platforms no1 to 6 with landing in platform no 2 and 3 and 4 and 5.
