Bhubaneswar: Even as mystery surrounds the death of lady advocate Dipali Priyadarshini Jena, her male friend Bikram Keshari Mishra who was on the run for the last three months surrendered before Bhubaneswar Sessions Court on Tuesday, opening the doors of investigation for the police.

On October 20 last year, Dipali was found hanging from the ceiling fan in her rented house at Lingipur in Dhauli area on the city outskirts.

Her family members had then alleged that Bikram was present in the house when Dipali locked herself in her room after they had an argument.

As Dipali didn't respond to his countless door-knockings, Bikram informed the same to Dipali's sister Sefali, who along with her family members rushed to the spot, only to find Dipali hanging from a ceiling fan. However, Bikram had fled the scene by the time they reached.

While police had launched a manhunt, Bikram applied for anticipatory bail at the Orissa High Court which directed him to appear before Sessions Court. On Tuesday, immediately after he surrendered, Court ordered to take him to judicial custody. Bikram was arrested and sent to Jharpara jail, sources said.

"As per reports and the case diary submitted by police, it can be clearly stated that Dipali was unable to bear the unabated mental and physical torture meted out to her by Bikram. Thus she ended her life," said Dipali's advocate Prashant Sahu.

Meanwhile, family members of the deceased have demanded stringent action against Bikram. "Bikram is responsible for her death and he forced her to take such a drastic step," said Dipali's sister Itishree.

Bikram, who is claimed to be Dipali's boyfriend, hails from Balikhand area of Balasore district and is a businessman by profession.
