Bhubaneswar: Achieving yet another milestone, Bhubaneswar has bagged the best Smart City award at the three-day international conference, 'Smart City Expo India-2018' held at Jaipur.

In a tweet, the official Twitter account of the Smart City Expo India Jaipur informed about the award.

"Our first Smart City Award category is the Best City Award. Congratulations to the winner Bhubaneswar Smart City for transforming itself through various initiatives for its people," the tweet read.

The ranking was based on parameters like community mobilisation and community development, which forms a part of the Socially Smart Programme, which is a joint collaboration of Bhubaneswar Smart City Limited and United Nations Population Foundation Fund (UNFPA).

According to sources, Bhubaneswar received the award for its various safety audits held in different slums of the city. 320 adolescent girls from eight slums of Bhubaneswar area have been trained in self-defense and 22 slums around Bhubaneswar have been declared Open Defecation Free under the initiative through the help of selected leaders and community members.
