Bhubaneswar: With an aim to provide an impetus to the air cargo business, the Biju Patnaik International Airport will soon be introducing the Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) facility.

As per reports, through the EDI all the cargo related operations can be done online which will be beneficial for the cargo shippers.

Director of the airport, Suresh Chandra Hota informed the airport would introduce the EDI facility after it receives an approval from the Customs department. This facility will be helpful for shippers, he added.

A decision regarding EDI was taken at a meeting chaired by the Additional Chief Secretary of MSME department LN Gupta yesterday. Experts said this EDI facility will help the airport achieve its target of becoming a cargo hub. Earlier this month, international cargo services became operational at the airport.
