Bhubaneswar: Airports Authority of India (AAI)'s a preliminary investigation into the collapse of a roof of an under-construction building at Biju Patnaik International Airport (BPIA) in Bhubaneswar last week has concluded.

BPIA Director VV Rao informed that the Executive Engineer and General Manager of AAI’s Regional Headquarters at Kolkata were on a one-day visit to Bhubaneswar yesterday and conducted an initial investigation.

“Preliminary committee comprising of executive engineer and general manager from AAI’s regional headquarters came to Bhubaneswar yesterday and investigated the mishap. After they submit a report, further investigation will be carried out,” stated the BPIA Director.

Reports said the two officials inspected the mishap site and videographed it. The investigation report will be submitted to AAI’s Headquarters at New Delhi.

A technical committee of AAI comprising civil engineer and administrative officials will be formed for further investigation into the incident. The team is likely to visit Bhubaneswar this week, said sources.

It is pertinent to mention that roof of an under-construction building to link the terminal 1 of BPIA with terminal 2 collapsed late on Friday night last week. One Antaryami Guru, an electrician-cum-helper engaged in the construction work at the airport lost his life after getting crushed under the debris of the roof.
