Bhubaneswar: Making headlines, city of temples, Bhubaneswar which topped the list of Indian Smart Cities in 2016 has notched another milestone by making it to the list of top 50 cities with best governments in the world, according to a ranking by a Singapore-based research institute.

Eden Strategy Institute of Singapore which helps leading global corporations, governments, and non-profit organizations design new growth platforms has ranked Bhubaneswar 32nd in terms of best smart city government in its annual report.

Bhubaneswar was placed alongside Ahmedabad in 32nd place in the list which was topped by London. While New Delhi was the highest placed Indian city at 23rd rank followed by Surat at 27th position, Jaipur was 34th and Pune 36th.

Eden Strategy Institute in collaboration with OXD (ONG&ONG Experience Design) prepared the report on the basis of several parameters and the role the city governments played in implementing smart city strategy.

According to sources, as many as 140 cities were evaluated while preparing the report on the basis of their governments’ clarity of vision, leadership, budget, provision, financial initiatives, support programmes, talent readiness, people-centric approach, development of an ecosystem approach, implementation of smart policies and previous track record.

Earlier in March this year, Bhubaneswar was also included in world’s top 20 best performing smart cities in the Global Smart City Performance Index 2017 prepared by Juniper Research, an England-based research and consulting firm.

The capital city had also bagged third spot at World Smart City Expo Awards in 2016 besides being named the third best city in terms of ease of doing business in the country in November 2017.
