Kendrapara: Almost after a three-month ban, the Bhitarkanika National Park here in Kendrapara will be thrown open to public from tomorrow.

The prohibition to enter the wetland sites was put on since May 1 keeping in view the onset of breeding season of the estuarine crocodiles in the park.

“The Bhitarkanika Park will be opened for visitors from August 1,” said Rajnagar Divisional Forest Officer (DFO) Bimal Prasanna Acharya.

The DFO further informed that eight new cottages have become functional at Dangamala this year. “With eight new cottages, more number of tourists can stay here which will ultimately boost tourism,” he added.

It may be noted that the ban is imposed every year during the nesting season of the estuarine crocodiles to prevent attacks on human beings by the reptiles.
