Bhadrak: A delegation of Odisha unit of Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) today met the Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) blaming BJD's Chandbali MLA, Byomkesh Ray for the liquor deaths in Bhadrak.

The BJP team led by Manmohan Samal sought intervention of the panel in the case.

"12 persons have died and more than 80 persons have been hospitalised after the incident. Local MLA Byomkesh Ray is directly involved in the case. We met the Human Rights Commission regarding this. We demand compensation for the victims and action against those who are responsible for this tragedy," Samal said.

The Bhadrak liquor tragedy had triggered political denunciation after the opposition parties—BJP and Congress held the ruling-BJD and the administration responsible for the incident. While 12 persons died, many were taken ill after allegedly consuming toxic liquor at a post-election feast in Nuasahi near Pirhata under Bhadrak’s Tihidi Police limits last month.

After the tragedy, the affected persons were admitted to Bhadrak district headquarters hospital (DHH) and Cuttack SCB Medical College and Hospital.
