Bhadrak: The Bhadrak liquor tragedy, which has claimed eight lives so far, has triggered political denunciation after the opposition parties—BJP and Congress held the ruling-BJD and the administration responsible for the incident.

While the Congress blamed administrative negligence and involvement of BJD, the saffron party directly accused and held the ruling party responsible for tragedy.

Both BJP and Congress members visited the Bhadrak hospital today and inquired about the health conditions of victims undergoing treatment.

“The ruling-BJD is directly involved in this incident. Our party will bring this incident to the notice of the Election Commission,” said BJP leader Prakash Mishra.

Similarly, the Congress also targeted the BJD. Odisha Congress chief Niranjan Patnaik said, “The administration and the ruling party are completely responsible for the incident. A detailed probe to find out the source of the spurious liquor should be carried out.”

The ruling BJD responded to the allegations with its spokesperson Sasmit Patra claiming that “BJP is a habitual liar.”

At least eight persons died and over hundred were taken ill after allegedly consuming toxic liquor at a post-election feast in Nuasahi near Pirhata under Bhadrak’s Tihidi Police limits.

As many as 40 persons are still undergoing treatment at Bhadrak district headquarters hospital (DHH) and Cuttack SCB Medical College and Hospital.

Though the exact cause behind the incident is yet to be ascertained, we are waiting for the viscera reports, said Bhadrak Collector.

Meanwhile, Tihidi Police has detained two persons and is investigating into the matter.
