Bhadrak: In what is believed to be a retributory attack, alleged members of a local coal mafia set the car of a person ablaze after suspecting him to be a police informer at Marpur village here on Monday night.

The owner of the car has been identified as one Pratap Kumar Behera.

According to reports, recently, the police had conducted a series of raids against coal theft based on specific tip offs provided by informants. The cartel suspected that Pratap was acting as the informer to tip off the police.

In an alleged act of revenge, late on Monday night they poured petrol on Pratap’s car, parked near his house, and set it ablaze.

“On the request of the Railway Police Force (RPF) and the Crime Branch, I helped by giving information about the activities of the mafia. But I have to bear the brunt of the mafia’s wrath,” rued Pratap.
