Betel Shop Owner’s Son From Odisha Cracks IISER Entrance
Cuttack: Nothing is impossible for those who will and dare; and no obstacle is strong enough to prevent them from succeeding. Son of a betel shop owner from Cuttack district of Odisha is perhaps the best example.
A resident of Shankarpur village in Tangi area, Subhasish Behera has now landed himself a seat to pursue higher education and research at the prestigious Indian Institute of Science Education and Research (IISER)-Tirupati.
Subhasish’s father owns a small betel shop to earn a hand-to-mouth living for his family of four. After securing 90% in Class 10 annual examinations in 2018, Subhasish pursued higher secondary education at Ravenshaw Junior College in Cuttack.
At the college, Subhasish stood apart as best student in the academics. He worked hard to prepare for IISER Aptitude Test with only a single vision in mind – to get a proper platform where he can channelize his scientific temper and become a scientist.
His family’s poor financial condition did not discourage him. With will power, Subhasish successfully passed the examination to qualify for the coveted IISER Tirupati.
Elated at Subhasish’s achievement, his father, Paramananda Behera expressed heartfelt gratitude to all his teachers for helping him realise the dream.
“We had to go through tough times but we never hesitated to ensure better education for him and with the blessings of God, our prayers have been answered,” said Behera.
