Berhampur: The Berhampur Police on Sunday rolled out 'Surakshya' vehicle under 'Swayamsiddha' programme to help women in distress, on the occasion of the Mother's Day here.

The mobile women police unit vehicle was flagged off by Food Supplies Minister Surya Narayan Patro and Women and Child Development Minister Prafulla Samal at a special event.

A woman can call helpline numbers - 8480663467, 9348823467 - to get help from the mobile women police unit at her doorstep.

Berhampur SP Pinak Mishra, who was present at the occasion, said the mobile unit will be dedicated to address complaints and grievances of women at the spot. "The motto of the 'police station on wheels' initiative is to reach to every woman at her doorstep and extend our helping hands," Mishra added.

Besides, the ministers felicitated ten women from different fields for their excellence at the event.

Among others, Berhampur MP Sidhanta Mohapatra, DIG (Southern Range) Asish Singh, Ganjam SP Brijesh Kumar Rai, Mayor K Madhavi and BeMC Commissioner Chakraborty Singh Rathore were present at the function.
