Berhampur: With an aim to boost police-public relationship, Berhampur Police on Thursday launched 'Utsarga,' a people-oriented programme under which cops will donate blood to the needy patients.

Police reportedly launched the 'Utsarga' initiative at MKCG Medical College and Hospital to donate blood to patients during emergency.

On this occasion, four helpline numbers (7735000018, 9439771611, 9438170354 and 9437660444), were also launched for the general public through which the cops can be contacted in case of emergency. The helpline numbers will provide round the clock service to the people.

A list of more than 1200 police personnel, working under Berhampur Police division, has been prepared for the purpose.

Speaking about the unique initiative, Southern Range DIG, Satyabrata Bhoi, said, "It is a praiseworthy step by Berhampur Police through which patients can get blood easily. Besides, it is a move to boost the police-public relationship."

The initiative has been highly appreciated by people from all walks of life. "This is a noble initiative undertaken by the cops. This kind of program was never held by the police department in Ganjam district. I am hopeful that this program will reduce the gap between the police and public," said Dean of MKCG, Radha Madhab Tripathy.
