Berhampur: In an alleged attempt by Odisha government to target Ortel Communications after IMFA, the Berhampur Municipal Corporation (BeMC) authorities continue to defy the stay order of the Orissa High Court on sealing of Ortel Berhampur office.

The sub-collector and the Commissioner of the BeMC had raided the Ortel offices near Stadium and Gandhinagar day before yesterday citing violation of fire safety norms and trade license. The authorities had sealed the offices yesterday.

According to sources, though Ortel representatives presented a copy of the the High Court stay order to the BeMC Commissioner today, no steps were taken by the civic body authorities.

The BeMC Commissioner said that steps will be taken only after they receive the original copy of the High Court order.

It is being alleged that many Ortel customers continue to suffer because of disruption of services while there were reports of vandalism at Ortel's office near Stadium.

"Until we receive the certified copy of the High Court's order, we won't be able to confirm anything. Ransacking has happened on the outside, no damages to sensitive equipment have been reported" said BeMC Commissioner, Chakrabati Singh Rathore.

Public Relations Officer of Ortel, Rajendra Kumar Das said, "We had handed over a copy of the High Court's stay order to the BeMC Commissioner. Some unidentified persons resorted to vandalism over disruption of cable TV services."
