Cuttack: In a major relief to the cancer battlers in the State, Orissa High Court on Tuesday directed Odisha government to bear expenses of Positron Emission Tomography (PET) and X-ray computed tomography CT scans of all patients from tomorrow.

While hearing a petition filed by a cancer patient, the court passed an interim order directing Odisha government to bear all expenses of the PET-CT scan while expressing shock over the unavailability of the scanning machine at Acharya Harihar Regional Cancer Institute, the premier cancer-care unit in the State.

Notably, cancer patients across the State used to suffer a lot due to the unavailability of the scanning machine at the health institute and were forced to visit private labs for the scanning.
