Bear caught in trap laid by villagers to capture wild boar

Malkangiri: A bear was caught in a trap that was laid for capturing wild boar in Malikeswari area of Malkangiri district on Wednesday night.

The matter came to light after the locals spotted the bear this morning and later informed the Forest department officials.

On being informed a team of Forest department officials reached the spot to rescue the bear.

"With the combined efforts of our team and villagers the bear has been rescued," said Malkangiri Assistant Conservator of Forests (ACF), Srikant Nayak.

"We have kept it in a cage and will take it to the range office after tranquilising the animal. The bear will be released into the jungle", Nayak further added.

The preliminary treatment of the bear will be done after tranquilisation, informed sources.
