Bargarh: Dhanu Yatra, world's largest open air theatre, will kick off in Bargarh town from December 31. The date was announced after a preparatory meeting chaired by Collector and president of Dhanu Yatra Mahotsav Committee, Jyoti Ranjan Pradhan on Saturday.

As per decision, this time new artistes will be given a chance to participate in the 11-day mega festival. The selection committee will select the artistes who will play the role of demon king Kansa and other mythological characters.

“Last year, we had taken some steps to make the festival more attractive and several new initiatives like selection of new artistes have been taken for this year's festival,” said the Collector.

Law and order, traffic management and other issues were thoroughly discussed in the meeting which was attended by the members of Dhanu Yatra Mahotsav Samiti, Bargarh SP Padmini Sahu and other stake holders.

“As the committee realised that new artistes should be given a chance, important characters like Kansa, Mantris, Akrura and Yasoda will be selected this year,” said Sureswar Satpathy, secretary of Dhanu Yatra committee.
