Bargarh: The private bus owners in Bargarh are now in distress over the construction of a market complex by the District Municipal Authorities over a place reportedly meant for the construction of the new private bus stand.

Convener of the Bargarh Private Bus Owners’ Association, Debadatta Mishra alleged, “Funds which were allocated only for the construction of a new bus stand behind the existing one was misutilised and a market complex with nearly 200 shops was constructed in the place by the municipality officials for ripping benefits.”

“Once the market complex opens, it will not only cause inconvenience for the passengers, but also create space congestion for the movement of the buses leading to traffic jam,” he added.

According to sources, the Private Bus Owners’ Association met the Additional District Collector in this regard and submitted a memorandum demanding construction of a full-fledged bus stand by demolishing the market complex.

Meanwhile, Additional Collector of Bargarh, Tukaram Majhi assured that steps would be taken after consulting the concerned officials. “I have had a discussion with the bus association members. Necessary steps will be taken accordingly after due consultation with the municipality executive officer and other concerned officials,” he said.
