Cuttack: The Odisha State Bar Council on Sunday announced the executive body elections to all affiliated bar associations in the State.

A notification issued by the Council stated that the poll which was postponed twice due to Covid-19 pandemic will be held on December 12, 2020.  The notification was issued in compliance to the directive of Orissa High Court to notify the poll dates at the earliest.

As per the official order, the filling of nomination will take place from November 24 to 25 while scrutiny will be held on the following day.

List of valid candidates for different posts will be published on November 27. Candidates desiring to withdraw their candidature can do the same by November 28 and the final list will be announced on the same day.

Polling of votes will be carried out on December 12 followed by countung and declaratio of results the same day.

"Election officers of Bar Associations have been directed to take all necessary precautions and safety measures as well as guidelines issued by the Central Government and State Government in view of Covid-19 such as use of masks, sanitizer, social distancing having more numbers of Polling booths to minimise crowd", the notification read. Polling will be held through secret ballot, it added.

The State Bar Council had twice postponed the election to different bar associations in the State. Initially, it was supposed to be held on March 28, but was postponed to April 25 due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

The Election Officer alreaady appointed by the General Body of resp4ective bar associations for 2020-21 shall continue to remain Election Officer and conduct the forthcoming polls.
