Bhubaneswar: In what could bring relief for bank customers, the proposed all-India bank strike scheduled to be observed from March 11 to March 13 has been postponed indefinitely, informed Convenor of United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU), Sambit Mishra.

The strike was called by the constituents of UFBU, the umbrella body of the trade unions in the banking sector. As per UFBU, discussions on demands are underway with Indian Banks' Association.

“After a crucial meeting in Mumbai today with IBA it was decided that the strike will be postponed for indefinite period. The discussions will continue and we are ready to wait for the final decision,” said Mishra.

All India Bank Employees' Association's (AIBEA) statement said that in the bipartite meeting, which was held between the unions and Indian Banks' Association (IBA), discussions were held in respect of offer of increase in pay slip cost to 15 per cent, demand for five-day banking among others.

The statement added that IBA has agreed to discuss all other issues raised by the unions. Bank unions had observed a two-day strike from January 31 after talks over wage revision had failed with the IBA.

On the other hand, all public and private sector banks in Odisha will remain closed on March 9 and 10 on account of Holi celebrations. Similarly, March 5 will also be a holiday in Odisha for the Panchayati Raj Divas.
