Sambalpur: A group of unidentified miscreants allegedly looted over Rs 35 lakh at gun point from two employees of Union Bank, Laimura branch at Pipalkhunti under Kuchinda police limits.

According to sources, the incident took place near Pipalkhunti on Tuesday when six persons intercepted the vehicle in which the bank staff were returning to the branch and snatched the bag containing the cash. The miscreants fled the scene in seconds.

“Our employees were bringing the required cash to Laimura branch from the main branch, but some miscreants looted all the cash from them midway. We have lodged a complaint at the Kuchinda Police station,” said branch manager Alok Patel.

Based on the complaint filed with the Kuchinda police, a manhunt has been launched to nab the culprits. Sambalpur SP Kanwar Vishal Singh and Kuchinda Sub Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) rushed to the spot to review the investigation. “We are investing the case proactively and sincerely and hopeful of a breakthrough very soon,” said Kuchinda Police Station incharge Rajkishor Mishra.

In another incident, five bike-borne miscreants allegedly looted lakhs of rupees at gunpoint from a petrol pump at Gopinathpur under Niali police limit in Cuttack district.

Late last night, the robbers came in two bikes, entered the filling station’s cabin and brandished a gun at the employees asking them to handover the money they had. They also allegedly thrashed the employees before fleeing the spot. Receiving information, Niali Police reached the spot and started an investigation into the matter.
