Puri: Police on Monday arrested four persons after foiling their attempt to loot Haripur Gramya Bank in Delang area of Puri district.

Four others who were part of the gang managed to escape. Police have seized four motorcycles, five crude bombs, sharp weapons and other equipment used for breaking locks of the bank from their possession.

The four persons have been identified as Ramesh Chandra Behera, Abhaya Kumar Swain and Sushant Mallik, all residents of Delang area while the fourth one belongs to Nimapara area.

According to police, around eight to 10 persons were roaming suspiciously near the Haripur Gramya Bank branch on motorcycles last night when a patrolling team of Delang Police tried to stop them. However, they tried to flee the spot. They also hurled a bomb at the police team which damaged a portion of the patrolling van.

After a chase, the police officials managed to nab four of them while four others escaped from the spot, Delang police said.

The four dacoits are being interrogated by the police to find out further details about the loot plan and whereabouts of their accomplices.

Two flying squads have been formed and a manhunt has been launched to nab the other criminals involved in bank loot bid, the police said.
