Balasore: Sahadevkhunta Police on Sunday seized 42 grams of brown sugar from in front of Balasore jail during a raid and arrested a peddler.

During the raid, 42 gram brown sugar worth Rs 4 lakh and Rs 20,000 in cash were seized from the accused.

The arrested person was identified as Sheikh Babu Khan, who hails from Bangladesh.

Sources said, Babu has links with drug trade in Arada bazaar area. He served jail term for 13 years in a loot case in 2007. After completion of his jail term, he could not go back to his home due to lockdown and shutdown imposed during Covid-19.

He was at Balasore jail barrack under the custody of police. Reports said he was fixing a deal through cellphone and was under the radar of cops. He was also involved in illegal gun trade, sources said.
