Bandh observed in Turekela for district status to Kantabanji

Bolangir: Demanding district status to Kantabanji the Zilla Sangharsh Samiti has been observing a dawn-to-dusk bandh in Turekela today.

Members of the outfit were seen picketing on highways and in front of several government offices from early morning today.

Normal life came to a grinding halt in the district due to the shutdown. Markets, business establishments, educational institutions and government offices remained closed during the bandh. Vehicular movement has also been hit on Turekela-Kantabanji road as the protestors staged road blockades by burning tyres.

"We will continue our protest until our demands are fulfilled," said an agitator Dilip Sahu.

However, emergency services have been kept out of the purview of the shutdown.

Meanwhile, the district administration made adequate security measures to avoid any untoward incident.

It is pertinent to mention that the Zilla kriyanushthan Committee have been staging dharna in front of the Kantabanji Tehsil office since last 39 days demanding district status to Kantabanji.
