Berhampur: Union Minister Babul Supriyo and BJP national vice president, Baijayant Panda today attended a mega rally in Berhampur, Odisha as part of the saffron party's 'Jan Jagran' (mass awareness) programme to build support for the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) across the country.

Thousands of BJP supporters and party workers from 22 blocks as well as the general public attended the rally organised to create awareness about CAA.

Targeting opposition parties including Congress and Trinamool Congress, Supriyo said that such parties are creating unrest as they have gone politically bankrupt.

Moreover, the opposition parties are spreading false information about CAA which doesn’t take away anybody’s citizenship rather guarantees citizenship to the minorities who are subjected to torture and other atrocities like forceful conversion in neighbouring Islamic countries like Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan, Supriyo added.

Addressing a public meeting, Baijayant ‘Jay’ Panda said CAA is a historic decision by Prime Minister Narendra Modi to provide citizenship to minorities subjected to torture in neighbouring countries.

“The constitutions of Pakistan, Bangladesh and Afghanistan are not neutral and only give preference to one religion. Mahatma Gandhi’s second assurance was that if the minorities in such countries didn’t feel safe or were not given adequate security, they can return to India which is their original home. Since partition, all political parties were advocating for the idea. But as PM Modi enacted the legislation, the Opposition parties are opposing it and creating unrest in the country,” said Panda.
