Cuttack: BJP National Vice-President Baijayant Panda today met Bibekananda Moharana, a young businessman from Kendrapara, who was attacked and is now undergoing treatment at SCB Medical College and Hospital in Cuttack. After meeting Moharana, Panda targeted Odisha government for rise in political violence in the State.

It is pertinent to mention here that Moharana sustained critical injuries after he was shot at by unidentified miscreants on the night of July 13.

Moharana was involved in campaigning for BJP in Patkura and the attack on him is unfortunate, said Panda adding that the attack is to disrupt the crucial elections.

“There has been a rise in political violence in Odisha. We are demanding immediate arrest of those involved in the firing,” said Panda.

Panda further alleged that the law and order situation has gone for a toss in Odisha as four murders and seven rape cases are being reported every day. The ruling BJD should introspect on the present law and order situation in the State.

Earlier yesterday, protesting the attack on Moharana, local residents and other traders had staged road blockade at several places on Cuttack-Chandbali road.

Ruling-BJD's comments on Panda’s statements could not be obtained.
