Paradip : At least seven persons have been picked up in connection with the recent attack on a police team in Jagatsinghpur district. As per reports, at least four cops including an assistant sub-inspector were injured in a mob attack while arresting a person accused of extortion on Thursday.
The locals, who attacked the police, succeeded in freeing the accused Trinath Dalei from the custody of the police team, an officer said.
The incident took place in Belari Dalei Sahi village in Paradipgarh police station area in the evening when a four-member police team from Abhaychand police station went there to execute a warrant and arrest Dalei.
The police team was taking the accused to the police station when locals attacked them and succeeded in freeing him.
Two platoons of police force have been deployed in the village and the area has been cordoned off.
“Stern action will be taken against those who have taken law into their hands. The reports of firing are completely baseless. We have also deployed force to maintain law and order in the region,” said Paradip Additional SP Nimai Sethi.
