Attack In Police Presence: Odisha Man Moves Human Rights Commission

Bhubaneswar: The Sikh businessman Parvinder Pal Singh, who was brutally assaulted by three persons in presence of PCR van staff here on January 14, today moved the National and Odisha Human Rights Commission (OHRC) seeking slapping of serious charges under Attempt to Murder- Section 307 of IPC against the accused along with appropriate investigation into the case.

Singh along with his family members reached the OHRC’s office in Bhubaneswar and lodged a written complaint with the authorities concerned. He is also reportedly lodged an online complaint with the NHRC in connection with the attack incident.

In his complaint, Singh has questioned as to why the attackers were not charged under IPC Section 307 despite the fact that they tried to kill him in broad daylight, said sources.

He further claimed that even though the three assailants disrespected him by snatching his turban, why strict action has not been taken against them.

On January 14, Singh, a resident of Laxmisagar area in Bhubaneswar was thrashed by three persons identified as Deepak Jena who is reportedly the nephew of a former BJD corporator and his associates Sankar Rout and Deepak Mohanty in the presence of PCR van staff over some parking dispute.

Though police had arrested the trio after receiving complaint from Singh, they managed to secure bail within hours of their arrest as the police allegedly did not slap any serious charges on them.
