Cuttack: Protesting postponement of the Assistant Section Officer (ASO) exam to January 20, job aspirants today tried to gherao the Odisha Public Services Commission (OPSC) office in Cuttack.

The aspirants accompanied by BJP leaders Sameer Dey and other saffron party activists marched towards the OPSC office today, but were stopped by police on their way. The protesters alleged that as three exams are being held on the same date at different centres, it is difficult them to manage. The ASO exam is going to clash with the main exams for the post of Indian Railways’ Assistant Loco Pilot (ALP) and IBPS Clerk, they stated.

“We want the ASO exam to be rescheduled once again to another date,” said one of the protestors. On January 3, hundreds of students had gheraoed the OPSC centre and staged demonstration demanding postponement of ASO exam.

The exam for the post of ASO was earlier scheduled to be held on December 23, 2018 but it was later postponed by the OPSC to January 20, 2019.

OPSC authorities could not be contacted for comments on the matter.

In September 2018, the commission had released the official notification inviting applications from interested and eligible candidates for 500 posts of ASO.
