Ganjam: Hundreds of residents of Aska on Saturday blocked all the roads connecting the town demanding revocation of the transfer orders of the local Police Station Inspector-in-Charge (IIC) Santosh Kumar Jena to Rourkela.

Opposing the transfer of the IIC, locals and members of various organisations of the town burnt tyres and sat on demonstration on the road disrupting vehicular traffic on the route for hours.

Subsequently, Jena rushed to the spot after getting information and held talks with the agitating people. The locals declined to buzz off unless the orders are revoked, but somehow the IIC managed to pacify them. The agitation was reportedly withdrawn after sometime.

Sources said that the people are oppposing the transfer order citing decrease in number of crimes in the area after Jena joined as Aska IIC. "The number of criminal activities has considerably decreased in the town. Jena in his tenure had encountered six criminals and was able to crack many pending murder cases," said a local.
