Puri: Days after the Puri district administration razed structures adjacent to the 'Meghnad Pacheri' (boundary wall) of Puri Jagannath temple, a team of Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) officials today surveyed the condition of the wall.

Steps will be taken to remove the structures adjacent to the shrine wall and restore its original form, said Arun Mallick, Superintending Archaeologist, who examined the condition of the wall. "Structures around the Meghnad Pacheri will be evicted and the wall's original form will be restored. The district administration then will continue with its developmental plans," said Mallick.

Based on the recommendations made by Justice BP Das Commission of Inquiry, the State government carried out the eviction drive to remove structures adjacent to the boundary wall of the 12th century shrine. The State Cabinet approved the recommendations of Justice BP Das Commission and decided to remove structures around Srimandir up to 75 meters from the boundary on all sides to facilitate free movement of devotees.

However, the district administration has stated that a decision on eviction of structures within 75 meters from the boundary wall will be taken later.
