Article 370 Should've Been Scrapped 72 Years Ago: Baijayant Panda

Bhubaneswar: Scrapping of Article 370 should have been done 72 years ago because integration of Jammu and Kashmir was similar to that of other princely states' integration with Union of India, said BJP National VP, Baijayant Jay Panda on Saturday.

Addressing a seminar - 'One Nation One Constitution’ - in Bhubaneswar today, Panda said the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is currently correcting the historical blunder in the interest of the country.

'One Nation One Constitution’ campaign has been launched by the BJP to create awareness among people in the country about the Centre’s historic decision of scrapping Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir.

“The campaign is not only being carried out for our party, it is for the whole nation. Dr BR Ambedkar had also opposed Article 370. In this context, the preventive detention of some leaders for a temporary period was necessary and it was successful too,” Panda added.

In the seminar, Union Minister Pratap Sarangi said, “The step to revoke Article 370 & Article 35 by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah was lauded by all. However, those who support Tukde Tukde gang were pained by the move.”

More than 30 'One Nation One Constitution' seminars are scheduled to be held at 15 places in Odisha.

Among others, Union Water Resources minister Gajendra Singh Sekhawat, MP and BJP state president Basant Panda, Vice-president Samir Mohanty and senior journalist Rajaram Satpathy were present at the seminar today.
