Bhubaneswar: Don’t be surprised to see beautiful artefacts next time you pass in front of the Rail Sadan in Bhubaneswar. Even though the sculptures put up on the premises are captivating, what is really astonishing is the fact that they have been made from waste and scrap materials, East Coast Railway (ECoR) said in a statement.

After creating history by establishing the first Waste to Energy Plant in any Government Sector organisation in India, East Coast Railway has now undertaken another transformation by utilising its scrap and waste materials. The new innovation gives a message of effective utilisation of waste materials which can play a crucial role in protecting environment as well as generating awareness, informed sources.

As per reports, a few eye-catching installations of gigantic replicas of humans dancing with musical instruments have been put up at ECoR Headquarters (Rail Sadan) in Bhubaneswar.

ECoR officials informed that all such installations are made of discarded scrap metals, nuts, bolts which have been welded into beautiful creations. The scrap materials from diesel engines (Loco) like cam gears, cylinder liners, exhaust manifolds, after-cooler cooling tubes, piston carriers with rods, springs, centrifuge covers, air box covers, released rods of baggy filters, bearing, bolt heads, end plates and filter nets which had no use have been utilised to make these sculptures.

It is the brainchild of the employees of Diesel Loco Shed of Visakhapatnam who turned waste and scrap materials into amazing human art forms which is receiving huge appreciation.

This is also another form of skill development by the Diesel Loco Shed at Visakhapatnam. Official sources said that the employees are now taking interest in beautification of the premises by making sculptures of different animals, people and culture, vehicles and other innovative installations from the waste materials produced from the workshop.

Some of the art made of waste materials have been placed at Visakhapatnam Station, Visakhapatnam Railway Stadium and Diesel Loco Shed. Similar artefacts make will also be installed at Araku Railway Station, ECoR said in a statement.
