Cuttack: Gold jewellery weighing over 1 kilogram was allegedly looted from a jewellery shop at Godisahi village under Barang Police limits in Cuttack district on Sunday.

As per reports, six-armed miscreants reportedly barged into a jewellery shop and looted gold ornaments after attacking the shopkeeper. The incident took place when the shop owner was closing the shop in the evening.

After getting information about the crime, cops from Godisahi Police outpost reached the spot and launched a probe into the matter. Besides, they took the shop owner to the local hospital for medication as he suffered injuries after being attacked by the robbers.

Police sources said that efforts are on to identify and nab the miscreants who fled with the hard disk of the CCTV camera installed in the jewellery shop.

Similarly, gold ornaments and valuables worth around Rs 8 lakh and cash to the tune of Rs 50,000 were allegedly looted from a house at Dagamunda under Bhadrak Sadar Police limits yesterday.

One Rabindra Kumar Jena claimed that some miscreants looted the gold, valuable and cash by breaking the grill of the house while no one was there.

“We had gone to Cuttack for a medical check-up and we came to know about the loot only after returning home in the evening. We had kept the cash to pay the tent house owner who had decorated our house during my daughter’s wedding on January 22,” alleged Jena.

While the statement of the police over the loot could not be obtained, locals questioned the law and order situation in the area.
