Sonepur: Protesting liquor sale at a grocery shop at Badakhamar village in Birmaharajpur area of Sonepur district, hundreds of women ransacked the shop and smashed liquors bottles demanding its closure.

The agitating women alleged that locals in the area are getting addicted to liquor due to its unrestrained sale at the grocery shop. Holding banners and hoardings along with sloganeering against illicit liquor trade, the agitating women staged demonstration and also demanded closure of liquor shops in the area.

“We have taken oath to close all liquor shops in the area. If the shop owners will not co-operate with us then legal action will be taken against them in the coming days,” said an agitating women Renuka Mahanand.

“Our lives are under threat due to consumption of liquor by male members and children. The entire village is getting spoiled due to liquor sale in the area” said Sarpanch of the village, Rudrani Chand.

Officials of the district Excise Department informed that stringent action will be taken against illegal liquor sale in the village. “Whenever we have received complaints of illegal liquor sale in the area we have addressed it immediately,” said Excise department official , Subodh Nag.
