Cuttack: It seems the ongoing anti-extortion drive by Commissionerate Police is yielding results as in the past fortnight the cops have managed to arrest 37 persons in Cuttack in connection with 29 different cases.

Divulging details, Cuttack DCP Prateek Singh said people have gathered courage to report about instances of criminals harassing or demanding extortion from them.

“Say To No Extortion campaign has been successful as we have arrested 37 persons and seized three country-made pistols during an intensive drive carried out from October 14 to October 30,” said Singh.

The senior official further appealed people to come forward and share information whenever they come across anyone demanding extortion from businessmen and others.

It is pertinent to mention here that the Commissionerate Police has formed an anti-extortion task force (AETF) to launch a crackdown on criminals and rowdies in the twin cities of Cuttack and Bhubaneswar.

A helpline number has also been made operational to enable people to report matters about extortions to the AETF.
