Nabarangpur: Barely hours after an expectant mother was carried on cot for several kilometres before she could access an ambulance in Nabarangpur, another woman met the same fate due to lack of proper road connectivity in the district here on Saturday evening.

The incident was reported from Tarajodi village under Jharigaon block in the district.

The tribal woman, identified as Kaushalya Santa, wife of Manasaye Santa complained of labour pain yesterday.

On getting the SOS call from the family, ASHA worker Nayana Santa rushed to the spot and called 102 ambulance. However, the ambulance stopped two kilometres away as it could not travel further due to bad road condition in the village.

With no other option family members carried Kaushalya on cot through the muddy and uneven road for two kilometres. However, Kaushalya delivered a baby boy on roadside.

Both Kaushalya and her newborn were later shifted to Icchapur Community Health Centre (CHC) in the ambulance and their condition is said to be stable.

Earlier on Saturday morning, a woman of Baghabeda under Jharigaon here delivered a child midway after ambulance failed to reach her due to absence of motorable road to the village.
