Bhubaneswar: True, age is just a number. Amid grim circumstances of a pandemic, Basanti Patra, a 93-year-old woman from Balasore has successfully defeated the lethal coronavirus, bringing cheers to the medical fraternity of the SUM Covid hospital in Bhubaneswar.

After being diagnosed with COVID-19 on October 2, the nonagenarian was admitted to the hospital three days later, and recuperated from the disease on Sunday (Oct 11), informed the hospital authorities.

Last month, two more nonagenarian COVID-19 patients were cured of the infectious disease in Odisha. One of them - 91-YO Dhirendranath Das, happens to be a former official with the Press Information Bureau and All India Radio, who was admitted to the hospital on September 5 after he tested positive for Covid-19.

The other patient - Satchidananda Mohanty- also aged 91, was admitted to a dedicated COVID-19 hospital in Cuttack on the same day.

Both of them managed to defeat the virus and were discharged after necessary treatment in ICU. It became a reality because of the relentless efforts of the doctors and the nurses, their relatives expressed.
