Cuttack: The Commissionerate Police on Tuesday busted a factory which was allegedly engaged in the manufacturing of fake cement at Jagatpur in the outskirts of Cuttack city. It is the second duplicate cement manufacturing unit to be busted in the millennium city, police said.

As per reports, the duplicate cement manufacturing unit was operating from a godown near Khaira bridge under Jagatpur police limits for the last 5-6 years.

The unit was allegedly being run by one Sanjay Bhola of Buxi Bazar area who is reportedly absconding after the raid at the unit.

Senior officials of Commissionerate Police said the unit reportedly used to mix genuine cement with a mixture of discarded mounds or damaged cement. Later, the stock used to be repacked and sold in the name of various reputed cement brands.

“Basing on an intelligence input, we had conducted a raid at the factory today. The cement consignment was loaded in a vehicle and we are trying to nab the owner who is absconding,” said a senior police official.

The official further informed that a detailed probe will be launched to ascertain the entire supply chain of these fake cement consignments.

“So far we have busted over 25 units which were engaged in the manufacturing of adulterated food products in Cuttack. It is for the second time that a duplicate cement factory has been busted here,” the official added.

Sukant Rout, the owner of the godown said, “I had given the space on rent after an agreement for 5 years. The agreement was renewed last year. As the house owner, I got a call from police and visited the spot today. I also tried to call the factory owner, but his mobile was switched off,” said Rout.
