Angul: The body of a 52-year-old truck driver who had gone missing following an accident near Dhenkanal six days ago was found in a paddy field near his village in Banarpal block under mysterious circumstances on Saturday morning.

The body of Sanjay Samal was discovered by residents in Purikia village, not far from the former’s residence.

According to reports, Sanjay had not returned home since last six days after the truck he was driving met with an accident near Dhenkanal. The truck had a collision with another vehicle, reports stated. Following the accident, Sanjay was not found at the spot, neither did he return home.

After a brief search, his family members had approached the Dhenkanal Sadar and Banarpal Police Stations where missing reports were lodged.

While the search was on, his fellow villagers found his body near the village on Saturday morning, reports stated.

From the circumstances in which the body was discovered, Sanjay’s family members suspect that he had been murdered before his body was dumped in the paddy field.

After receiving information, the Banarpal police reached the spot and started an investigation into the death even as the body has been sent for post mortem to ascertain the exact cause of death.

In another case, the mutilated body of an unidentified young man was found at Gunduribari village near Satabhaya hills under Ranpur police limits in Nayagarh district on Saturday.

The body was partially charred and an Aadhaar card was found near it.

The Darpanarayanpur police have launched an investigation into the case.

“The cause of the death will be determined after the post-mortem examinations were conducted. Prima facie it appears to be a murder,” a police official said.
