Bhubaneswar: Chanchal Rana, a resident of Nalco Nagar in Angul district, who is currently pursuing training as an IPS officer, has obtained seventh rank in the civil services examination 2013 conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC).
Rana, an engineering degree holder from the National Institute of Technology, Silchar (Assam), previously worked for Indian Oil Corporation before cracking the IPS exam.
Similarly, around 17 other Odia candidates got a place among 1,122 who cracked the prestigious test.

The UPSC on Thursday announced the result, the test for which was conducted in December 2013 followed by an interview during April-June 2014.
Gaurav Agrawal of Rajasthan got the first rank in the exam with Economics as his optional subject. He holds a Bachelor of Technology (Computer Science) degree from the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT), Kanpur, and a Post Graduate Diploma in Management from the Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Lucknow.
This was his second attempt. As many as 180 candidates have been recommended for appointment in the Indian Administrative Service (IAS), 150 in the Indian Police Service (IPS), and 32 in the Indian Foreign Service (IFS), according to a release issued by the Ministry of Personnel.
