Bhubaneswar: Alleging illegal conduct of elections by Andhra Pradesh in some parts of Odisha, Leader of Opposition (LoP) Pradipta Naik on Saturday shot off a letter to Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy and requested him to maintain status quo ordered by the Supreme Court.

In the letter, Naik alleged that Vizianagaram district administration not only conducted elections in Kotia of Koraput, but also tried to hold polls in some villages of Rayagada district. Similarly, Srikakulam administration tried to conduct polls in some villages of Ganjam and Gajapati districts and Vishakapatnam administration in some villages of Malkangiri.

Terming it a grave constitutional crisis, Naik said the Andhra Pradesh has violated the status quo order, which was passed on the basis of consent of both states.

"This is not only against the spirit of the constitution, but also against the spirit of the federal structure of the country. The activities of Andhra Government are going against the spirit of the Supreme Court ruling on 1968 to maintain the status quo," Naik wrote in the letter.

Stating that Kotia Gram Panchayat has always been a part of the history of Odisha, he said the Andhra Pradesh Government's demand that these areas belongs to them is baseless.

On allegation that Andhra Pradesh has taken over some villages under Kotia gram panchayat belonging to Odisha and have renamed them and added them to AP by violating the status quo order of the Supreme Court, Naik said, "This shows the complete expansionist mindset of your state government."

"Andhra and Odisha have a very strong cultural relationship since thousand years. We should carry forward our relationship not fighting for the lands," Naik wrote.

He requested CM Jagan Mohan Reddy to instruct the three District Administrations to obey the Supreme Court ruling and respect the spirit of the cooperative federal structure of the nation.
