Malkangiri: Through a simple act of kindness, A. Krishna Rao, an ambulance driver from Mathili village of Malkangiri turned saviour for a woman patient by donating blood.

Maunabati Dhangadamajhi, a local woman working as a sweeper in the Mathili hospital needed O positive blood after she had fallen sick recently.

As no attendants of Maunabati were present during such emergency situation, Rao without spending a minute donated his blood.

In the absence of blood of the particular group at the blood bank at Mathili hospital, Rao came forward to help this woman by not only donating his blood but also collecting blood from the Malkangiri district headquarters hospital.

"After hearing that a woman patient admitted to the hospital is in need of blood, I decided to help her by donating blood. I am happy that I could save someone's life," Rao said.

Maunabati who came to know about the incident later expressed happiness and said that she would be grateful to Rao for the rest of her life.

Rakesh Kumar Behera, Doctor-in-charge of Mathili Hospital lauded Rao's efforts to help the woman when she needed the most.

"Rao has become an example for others to follow," said Behera.
