Jharsuguda: Good news for air travellers as regular flight services will soon begin from Jharsuguda’s Veer Surendra Sai (VSS) airport. After SpiceJet, Alliance Air has now decided to offer flight services from the second airport of the state from March 1.

A high-level team of the Alliance Air today inspected the airport and the facilities prior to launch of their operations from Jharsuguda to Kolkata and Raipur, sources said.

“The Alliance Air authorities have decided to operate flight services tentatively from March 1. Today, a team had inspected the airport and they are satisfied with the facilities here,” said P Karunakar, an official of the Jharsuguda airport.

T Shah, an official of Alliance Air stated that "We had come to inspect the airport and the safety team will also visit and review the infrastructure. We will be shortly submitting a detailed report to the authorities.”

Earlier, a team of SpiceJet had also visited Jharsuguda airport on February 9. As per official sources, SpiceJet is likely start operations on three major routes- Delhi, Kolkata and Hyderabad from March 31.

The Union Civil Aviation Ministry had cancelled the license of Air Odisha, which was operating flights from Jharsuguda airport to Raipur on charges of irregularities in November last year. It is pertinent to mention here that flight operations are yet to resume even after Prime Minister Narendra Modi had inaugurated the Jharsuguda airport in September 22, 2018.
