Bhubaneswar: To celebrate International Women’s Day tomorrow, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) on Friday ran a women's special goods train from Khurda Road to Palasa in Andhra Pradesh.

The train with all-women crew was part of a campaign of the Railway department to mark the International Women’s Day. The Khurda Road division of ECoR is observing the International Women’s Day campaign from March 1 to March 10 with the theme “Each for Equal.”

All the crew members of the goods train including loco pilot, assistant loco pilot and guard were women. The train left Khurda Road at 10.30 AM on Friday and reached Palasa at 5.30 PM on the same day. During the return journey, the special train left Palasa at 5.45 PM today.

“The empowered woman is powerful beyond measure and beautiful beyond description. They have the equal power to that of men in all fields,” said ECoR in a statement.

The crew members of the ladies Special goods train were Munni Tigga(Loco Pilot), Rajeswari Biswal, (Assistant Loco Pilot) and Revati Singh(Guard). For the convenience of the female staff, running room(rest rooms) facility were provided at various stations.

“These women employees are the pride of the division and are also an inspiration to the society,” the ECoR statement added.
