Bhubaneswar: A few days after Odisha School and Mass Education department decided to introduce extra classes system for academically weaker students in schools, the higher education department has also planned similar classes in colleges.

State Higher Education Minister Arun Sahoo has directed college authorities across the State to conduct extra classes for weaker students and those having low attendance. The minister said that emphasis will also be given to practical classes.

“We have implemented proctorial system and instructed colleges to conduct extra classes for such students whose performance is not up to the mark in examinations. Extra classes will also help students to compensate for the low attendance,” Sahoo said.

Recently, School and Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Dash had informed that extra classes in schools will be conducted during the summer vacation from this year to achieve zero fail mission in matriculation examination.

According to sources, teachers will be engaged on a rotational basis in schools to take classes during the summer vacation from May till mid-June.
