Bhubaneswar: As many as 25 patients had to be shifted to a different ward after one of the walls of the Trauma Care Unit at All India Institute of Medical Science (AIIMS) subsided today.

Following the incident, the Central Public Works Department (CPWD) that had undertaken the construction work of AIIMS has submitted a detailed report to the concerned authorities on the damages .

"We had contacted the CPWD officials after the cracks developed and after a thorough inspection, they have submitted a report, informed AIIMS Director Gitanjali Batmanabane.

"The CPWD, in its report has stated that some part of the soil underneath the structure settled causing the cracks. The problem can be fixed by constructing a beam around it. They have assured that it will take one month to complete the repair work,” the AIIMS Director said. Batmanabane said that patients were shifted since the repair work would have exposed them to dust and noise.

“After completion of the work, the patients will be shifted back to the Casualty Trauma Care Unit,” Batmanabane added. Apart from CPWD, a team from IIT Bhubaneswar has also been called by AIIMS authorities to inspect the wall. According to sources, Khurda District Collector also visited the hospital to take stock of the situation.
