Sonepur: In a tragic incident, wife of a 26-year-old man from Rugudipali village in the district reportedly attempted suicide after her husband died of Covid-19 on Friday.

The woman has been identified as Manorama Rana. She has been admitted to the Naikenpali hospital in a critical condition.

According to reports, Manorama’s husband Trilochan was working at a voluntary organisation in Chhattisgarh. He returned home following an illness last week.

After Covid-19 symptoms were found in Trilochan, he went to the nearby medical for Covid test on Wednesday. Unfortunately, he succumbed to the pandemic today.

However, the test report of Trilochan is yet to be provided by the hospital.

“Following the death of her husband, a crest fallen Manorama attempted to kill herself. Some of her relatives rescued her in a critical condition. Later, she was shifted to the hospital,” said a villager.

Upon being informed, the State health department officials reached the spot and seized the body.

While Sonepur reported 42 Covid-19 cases, the daily surge in Covid-19 cases in Odisha breached 3K-mark today recording 3108 new cases.

As per information from the State Information and Public Relations (I&PR) Department, the State had last registered over 3000 cases around six months ago on October 8, 2020, when 3144 people had tested positive for the virus.
